Hoopla at Bramley Baths

More and more people are looking to combine exercise with something abit different and fun. For some people that means entering a bike race or joining a Zumba class. We invited visitors at the Submerged Underwater Exhibition to try out hula hooping as a way to get fit. Hooping is a really good all-over workout, and at a gentle pace will burn about 400 calories per hour. As a result of a very positive reaction from lots of people who had a go, Pete White and his hoops are back to lead three classes at Bramley Baths each week.

The classes are designed for adults and to build pupils up from beginner to expert. If the thought of a workout class leaves you grimacing, we challenge you to be converted by Pete and his hoops.

Join the hoopla!

Hoop Dance Exercise is one of a range of exercise classes offered daytimes & evenings, 6 days a week at Bramley Baths. Hoop Dance is led by Pete White: Wednesdays, 11am-12noon and Thursdays at 6.15-7.15pm or 7.15pm-8.15pm. £4.00 per person. Hoops provided. Booking needed – call 0113 214 6000.

News: Opportunity to join the Board of Bramley Baths

Would you like to share your skills & experience for the benefit of the community and help lead Bramley Baths?

The Friends of Bramley Baths are inviting potential Board Members with solid experience of business, social enterprise and community initiatives to help govern this newly opened enterprise.

Bramley Baths is a not-for-profit enterprise managed by the Friends of Bramley Baths as Bramley Baths & Community Ltd, an Industrial Provident Society. An interim board is in place, chaired by John Battle.

The trustees are responsible for governing Bramley Baths, an art-deco swimming pool, gym and social hub in West Leeds. The building opened as a public swimming baths in 1904 and the Friends of Bramley Baths have led an asset transfer which came into effect in December 2012 to ensure a bright future for Bramley Baths as a community-led enterprise.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people with professional legal, accounting and HR skills. We are also interested to hear from people who have strong relationships with other sporting or educational initiatives in the city, a passion for West Leeds and a strong interest in a community like ours, situated in Bramley & Stanningley Ward and directly engaging with communities in Rodley, Farsley, Pudsey, Horsforth, Kirkstall and Holt Park.

The Board meets on a regular basis at Bramley Baths. We’re a friendly team of people, brought together by a shared vision for Bramley Baths, to be the friendliest sports & social centre in the UK; to make health, fitness and fun accessible to more people; and to be a springboard for community-development in the area.

Please contact friendsofbramleybaths@gmail.com with your details, an outline of relevant skills, CV or link to an online profile (such as LinkedIn) by 4 February 2013. New trustees will be asked to attend a weekend planning day in late Feb / early March 2013. We’re looking forward to meeting you.

There’s still time to enroll children for the new term of swimming lessons taught using the Dolphin Award Scheme, which our teachers recommend. Swimming lessons take place each weekday 4-6pm and on Saturday mornings 8.30-11.30am.

This Monday evening in response to feedback from customers, we’ve introduced a Ladies Only swim-session which gives the lasses exclusive use of the pool and steam room from 7-8pm each Monday. Swim for £3.90 or steam n swim for £7.00. NO BOYS ALLOWED. (sorry boys).

The popular aqua aerobics class begins again this Tuesday evening from 7.15-8pm or come & join Gez Flynn’s brilliant daytime class on Thursday at 11am..

There’s a special discount on exercise classes this January – so if you book three classes in advance, you’ll get the fourth free.
